UPA Board - Kate Bergeron

Kate Bergeron
At-Large Representative

I have been playing Ultimate for almost ten years in a number of forums - college, club, and local leagues. I started playing in Boulder, Colorado and have now migrated to the Bay Area of California. In an earlier UPA life I was a Sectional Coordinator and also the National College Director (1997-2000). Currently I am a member of the coed team RippIt and I play in the South Bay Ultimate League (SBUL). In my non-Ultimate time I keep plenty busy with my daughter Liza, who is just learning to throw a mini. Professionally, I work at Apple Computer as a Mechanical Engineer in the PowerBooks division. I also assist the Stanford Women's B Team, when they come calling.

My vision for Ultimate is not necessarily to be in the Olympics - I was fortunate enough to attend the World Games with Team USA - but continuing to have a forum for high level International competition is one of my goals. In addition to that exposure, grassroots growth is also one of my top strategic concerns. I believe that the best way to do this is to support the Junior's Division. The coolest thing that I can imagine is that in ten or fifteen years all of our kids have an opportunity to play Ultimate in their middle and high schools and that all the parents know about the sport. By supporting the Youth Division now, we have a good chance of making this happen.
