Georgia HS Championships

Teams from all over Georgia met at Woodward Academy on Saturday April 30th amid torrential rain and flooded fields. After a short weather delay the games got under way with Paideia and Woodward Academy fighting their way to the top against insane defense and spirited play. New ultimate programs from schools such as Heritage high school provided stiff competition for the #1 and 2 seeds in the tournament. Experience paid off though as Paideia and Woodward rolled into the finals on the shoulders of consistent offense among wind and rain, and aggressive defense highlighted by many layouts into the mud. With Heritage High School taking 3rd place followed closely by Paideia’s JV in 4th, eyes turned to Paideia’s Gruel and the Woodward Varsity for the State Championship game. However, due to inclement weather, the finals were rescheduled. The finals took place in a packed house at Woodward’s Colquitt stadium. The fans intensity was only dwarfed by the respective intensity on each team. Playing into the cap, Paideia pulled out a win despite a late scoring run by Woodward Academy. The final score was 14-11. At the end of the game the spirit award was well earned by WAFU (Woodward Academy Female Ultimate) a new program in its first year. All the teams who participated would like to thank the parents, coaches, and fans for their hard work and support in making the Georgia Ultimate State Championships possible.
