Job Description

General Role:
     The volunteer Chair of the UPA College Eligibility Committee is responsible for overseeing the College Eligibility Committee in hearing and resolving cases, as well as fielding general player eligibility inquiries, under the guidance of the Championships Director (Will Deaver) and the Championship Series Manager (Matthew Bourland).

Specific Role:
     The Chair of the UPA College Eligibility Committee oversees the UPA College Eligibility Committee.  This task involves recruiting volunteers to fill Committee openings, communicating UPA policies and procedures to the Committee, and facilitating communication of eligibility issues within the Committee as well as to and from UPA Headquarters.

     The Chair also works with the Championship Series Manager in fielding and logging general player eligibility and consortium inquiries, determines which inquiries warrant Committee discussion and which need to be assigned as a case.  The Chairperson assigns cases to Committee members, and ensures that cases are resolved and communicated to the members within the agreed upon timeline. 

Appointment Of:
     The volunteer Chair of the UPA Eligibility Committee is appointed by the UPA Championship Director.  The Chair serves a two-year term and can be appointed to consecutive terms.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the Eligibility Committee and facilitates general discussion
  •  Assists the Champions Series Manager in fielding eligibility inquiries, logging the inquiries in a shared document
  • Determines which inquiries warrant being a case
  • Assigns cases to the Eligibility Committee members, and ensures that the cases are resolved under the prescribed timetable
  • Communicates the case outcome to the involved parties

Requirements:

  • Knowledge of the UPA College Division and Eligibility Rules
  • Good communication and diplomatic skills
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills
  • Enthusiasm for Ultimate in general and for College Ultimate specifically
  • Regular use of email (at least 5 days per week from Jan-May, plus 3 days per week in off-season)
  • Delegate well
