How they got here:
1st in the Central Region
I think that Madison is great. Of the great teams this year (Stanford, San Diego, Brown, etc.), I think that Madison is probably better than all but Stanford and may be able to hang with them. Jamie Anderson is one of the best handlers around (especially defensively) and Jill Hutchinson is the best new deep in the game (she's only been playing two years). In addition to those two, they have a fantastic supporting cast and everyone plays hard and wants to win. Great team spirit.
Jamie Anderson is huge. Madison does really well in the wind - they played well against Iowa's zone at Regionals. They have great aggressive defenders who contest just about every pass.
Good luck stopping Jamie Anderson. Iowa played man on her in the zone when she was handling and it still didn't help.
Big season wins:
"our big wins of the season started out with considerable strength at president's day in san diego. after figuring out what it was all about on our team the first day, we got it together on sunday and won all of our games, including a battle against santa cruz. on monday after our first game we played colorado and were up by five at half. this was a good battle too. they came back in the second half and our intensity was diminished, allowing them to make the points up. however, our intensity in the first half secured the points we needed for the win. our biggest wins of the season came from regionals."
Big season losses:
"our biggest loss was against penn st at penn st. this finals game was a great example of the kind of athleticism women's ultimate is capable of. we were up by 3 at half and once again lost that ever important intensity in the second half, and as the excellent team they are, penn st put it away."
