Formerly known as Lady Marmalade, the University of Texas Women's Ultimate Team decided to rename itself to reflect its changing dynamic. We're a group of twenty six feisty, dedicated, talented women who don't shy away from challenges, and so our new name is Melee - "brawl" or "ruckus" in French. The ladies of Melee have made an impressive showing at nine tournaments this year. We've constantly pushed to attend tournaments with higher caliber of play, such as President's Day, and Yale Cup, and expose our eleven rookies to these more competitive games. Emerging from our competition season, Melee raised seed at two tournaments and maintained seed in all the others. At Mardi Gras we made it to the Finals; however, we lost to Iowa 13-12 in a highly spirited game.
Melee has two priorities: to do well and to encourage spirit of the game at all times. We have been able to maintain our goal of remaining competitive while supporting and utilizing players of all levels. We make no cuts and encourage everyone to play ultimate. Whether we're on the field or having a team dinner or road tripping or having a movie night or just taking a study break to go throw, we're devoted to growing closer as a team and showing the Ultimate community our skill, our spirit, our speed, and our stunning new jerseys.
