University of Iowa's Saucy Nancy is making its first appearance at Nationals after nearly qualifying in 2002, when they lost a close game to Carelton to finish second in a region with only one bid. In 2003 Saucy Nancy returned more determined than ever, nearly doubling in size from the previous year and bringing a great deal of depth and experience to the field. For the second year in a row they won a tournament victory at Mardi Gras, and they also pulled off a tough win in finals at Terminus. The team made two trips to Wilmington, North Carolina this season, competing at Fall Collegiates and Easterns. At Easterns they managed to defeat Carelton for the first time in team history, finishing in the middle of the pack. At regionals they played a close game against Madison, losing 14-13, then went on to qualify for Nationals in backdoor finals. Saucy Nancy was founded in 1993, but has rose to prominence in the Central region only in the last three years (In 2001 Saucy Nancy finished 3rd in the region, just behind Carelton and Madison). It is led by Captains Colleen Roarty and Mackenzie Henryson. A special congratulations to graduate student Amy Preszler Prince, who has worked hard over the past five years to make Saucy Nancy a nationally competitive team and to seniors Michelle Mobily, Jen Wade, and Colleen Roarty who have had a tremendous impact!
