The University of Arizona's women's ultimate team "Scorch" is very excited to be making their first appearance at Nationals this year. Scorch is a young team with not a lot of players, but we play with a lot of heart. The team made its debut in 2002 at Southwest College Regionals in Colorado Springs, CO. With only 8 players at our first tournament, we took third in the region behind CU Kali and UCSD Psychaughtit. This year, after recruiting a few more players, (including 5 first year players) we traveled to San Diego for the President's Day tournament. After losing to Oregon, Berkeley and Wisconsin the first day, we came back and won some games the 2nd and 3rd days to make it to the B-pool finals. Unfortunately, the B-pool finals weren't played due to some scheduling/seeding glitches. Being the only women's team in the Desert section, we had an automatic bid to Regionals. Not wanting to pass up an opportunity to play though, we traveled out to Claremont to join the Southern California sectionals tournament. Missing some key players and playing nearly savage, we ended up in fourth place. Knowing the chance to go to Nationals was on the line, we came to Regionals fired up with our full squad. Losing only to UCSD Psychaughtit and CU Kali, we played some hard fought games against the rest of the talented teams in the SW Region to win the third bid to Nationals.
