Legend tells that after winning the national championship, the 1985 Penn team disappeared into the sunset. Since then, Void returned to Nationals fource searching for the members of that team. In 2001, the appearance of one such member distracted the team into losing its pre-quarter game. This 2003 squad has learned its lessons, however, and is prepared to ignore, insult, or defile any distractions sent its way.

It all began a few years ago with the duck’s arrival. Its incessant noises are the lifeblood of the team, refusing to quiet in even the direst of game situations, until his untimely demise in a cooking accident. Void mourned his death, losing games at President’s Day and Easterns. His spirit lives on, lighting fires under every Void player’s rear end. The pre-quarters victory at Easterns was dedicated to this fearsome creature’s memory.

The turnaround came on a chilly, windy morning in New Haven with the purchase of new K-mart warm-ups. The team immediately began to draw energy from these mystical pants, which shout out “glory” and require averting of the eyes. Henceforth known as “poo pants,” they propelled the team to an undefeated Yale Cup championship, and a two month-long winning streak heading into Nationals.

Penn’s older players have experienced almost everything in the last 4-5 years, from losing at Sectionals to scratching their way into Nationals backdoor-style. They’ve spent this time brewing up something enormous, something visionary that teams won’t see coming until it explodes into their faces. Whose house?
